Android OpenVPN Manual Setup Guide
Android has many third-party OpenVPN clients that you can use to connect to Vector Link servers. We think one of the best is Arne Schwabe's "OpenVPN for Android". You can get it from Google Play, or if that is not available for you, download it from GitHub.
Getting the configurations
Once you have installed the app on your Android device, you need to get the server configurations for the VPN servers you want to connect to. Log in to the Vector Link User Panel, in the Servers tab you will find a list of all available servers.
Each server should have an OpenVPN column with a Config button. Clicking on the button will bring up a dialog showing you its OpenVPN configuration. Click the Download button in the dialog to download the configuration as a file.
Alternative: from the Devices tab, you can also download a zip file containing the OpenVPN configuration for all servers. To use this, however, you will need an app that can unzip the zip file.
Importing the configurations
In the upper right corner you will see a "+" icon - this is for adding configurations. Click on it to open a dialog, then click on Import in the dialog.
This will bring up a file selection screen. Browse to and select the OpenVPN configuration file you downloaded (or extracted from the zip file) in the previous step.
You will be returned to the Import Profile screen to name the profile. Click the check mark in the upper right corner or the Save button in the lower right corner to continue.
You will then be returned to the main screen with the list of all profiles. Click the server you wish to connect to. If this is your first time, Android will display a warning dialog telling you that the app is trying to establish a VPN connection. Click OK to continue.
For the first time, you will be asked to enter your username and password. Use your Vector Link username and password from "VPN Credentials" (see screenshot below), NOT your account password. Check "Save Password" so you don't have to re-enter it each time.
You will see "Initiation Sequence Completed" in the logs and a key icon in the upper right corner of your screen when the VPN has successfully connected.
You can then switch to whatever apps you want to use. The VPN will continue to run in the background. When you want to disconnect, switch back to the OpenVPN app, tap the profile you are connected to, and click Disconnect in the dialog.
